Fluxus Box Title: Fasle Sense of Decadence Materials: Wood repurposed from pallet, spray paint, acrylic paint, glue, card stock paper Dimensions: 1 ft x 3.5 ft x 6 in The film that inspired this project was The Outlaw Josey Wales- the tale of a man whose life and family was destroyed by "red legs", vigilantes working with the Union to fight the Confederacy. Josey Wales was a farmer and neutral in the war, yet his family slaughtered and home burned. He fought the Union then for some time before the Confederate soldiers with him all surrendered. Refusing to do the same, he was considered an outlaw by the U.S. Government. The movie portrays the injustices carried out against this man, women, Natives and other people at the hands of the U.S. Government, which is so often thought to have an element of moral superiority in its authority. Branching out heavily from this old western narrative, I explored modern examples of moral deficiency in the government. T...

SPATIAL BLUEPRINT

Spatial Blueprint Title: Home Reconstructed Materials: Wood repurposed from pallets, screws, nails Dimensions: 3.5 ft x 2 ft, protruding about 3 inches from the wall when hung My creation is based upon childhood memories of my backyard and the layout of trees, a patio, and other features. The selection of untreated, unpainted wood resembles the rebuilding that occurred after hurricanes and also the wood grain of my fence. There is a wood knot in the top corner to show the approximate area a neighbor's tree fell during one storm, crashing into the fence. Our patio is represented by the brick-patterned wood blocks near the middle section. It was the foreground to the stage of my childhood which often took place in that backyard. Below it, a structure resembling a roof or house lies in the approximate location of our home. In two sections of the patio, splintered wood was fixed at a perpendicular angle to emulate the destruction of homes and other structures in the stor...

MEMENTO

Memento Project Title: Bangkok Dengue Soiree  Materials: Resin, Sharpie wax, India ink Dimensions: Diameter approximately 4 inches, About 2 inches at its thickest point and 1 inch near                           the edges Artist Statement I chose to focus on a handful of memories from a trip to Bangkok I took in 2015. Immediately upon stepping outside of the sliding airport doors at Suvarnabhumi, the heat and humidity surrounds you. Coming from a much cooler, subtropical region, acclimation to the different climate there takes time and was a recurring theme of my experience. The feeling of the AC unit on full blast chilled the sweat on me every time I walked from the muggy streets into a 7-11. As I left, the thickness of the outdoor air created a physical sensation as I pulled it into my lungs. My incredibly affordable hotel room encapsulated me in glass high above those steami...
